Daily Devotion- October 27th

Today's Scripture:

Philippians 1:1-11

"So this is my prayer: that your love will flourish and that you will not only love much but well. Learn to love appropriately. You need to use your head and test your feelings so that your love is sincere and intelligent, not sentimental gush. Live a lover's life, circumspect and exemplary, a life Jesus will be proud of: bountiful in fruits from the soul, making Jesus Christ attractive to all, getting everyone involved in the glory and praise of God."  (v. 9-11, The Message)

Wow. I know I've read through this particular scripture before, and many times at that, but the beauty of the kind of love described here fills me with awe. When was the last time I show that kind of love to anyone? I am ashamed to say that I don't know. And when was the last time I was loved like that by a fellow believer? I have a couple very close christian friends that I feel love me in accordance with this, but from the church in general? I'm not quite sure I want to answer that. It's hard to admit that most christians I know and have met, myself included, have a hard time showing this kind of love. What I would give for my own church to become the kind of believer filled place that my pastor could say the same of us as Paul said of the Philippians! I think it's a worthy challenge. I am going to make Paul's prayer to love well my own and claim it for my church. Anyone else willing to try it with me?

Song of the day:
Something Beautiful by Jars of Clay
"Close my eyes and hold my heart
Cover me and make me something
Change this something normal
Into something beautiful"
